The short version: Terra is the cheapest desktop license for a DJI-only fleet and the only one of the three that reads DJI LiDAR. Pix4D costs more per device but accepts any camera and exposes more processing settings. DroneMapping removes the workstation and puts the seats inside the price.

Where each one wins, honestly: a single analyst on a PC the firm already owns pays least with Terra Standard permanent, and if you fly Zenmuse LiDAR, Terra is the only tool here that processes it. Pix4D earns its higher price when you fly non-DJI aircraft, need terrestrial capture with PIX4Dcatch or want to tune every processing step. DroneMapping wins when two or three people share the work and the client expects a link rather than a folder of GeoTIFFs.

When DJI Terra is the better choice than Pix4D
Terra suits DJI Enterprise operators who want one vendor from aircraft to deliverable:
- You fly only DJI aircraft and payloads, and you want the software that the flight hardware was designed around.
- You capture LiDAR with a Zenmuse L1, L2 or L3 and need the point cloud processed in the same tool as your photos.
- You want to own the license outright, and $4,800 permanent for Standard beats three years of any subscription.
- Data must stay offline, and the $360 offline option is acceptable.
- You want Gaussian splatting, power line or detailed inspection tools, which sit on the $3,360 a year Flagship tier.
The trade is platform lock-in. Terra is Windows only, it needs a capable NVIDIA workstation, and sharing a map with a client is a separate job.

When Pix4D is the better choice than DJI Terra
Pix4D suits firms where processing is a craft and the fleet is mixed:
- You fly more than one brand of aircraft, or you add terrestrial photos from a phone with PIX4Dcatch.
- An analyst wants to adjust calibration, densification and filtering project by project.
- You need a floating license that can move between office machines, one device at a time.
- You want a Mac option, since PIX4Dmatic runs natively on Apple silicon, even though its GPU acceleration is NVIDIA CUDA only.
- You already budget for PIX4Dcloud to share results and compare surveys over time.
The trade is cost. PIX4Dmapper alone is $3,990 a year per device, and client sharing adds a second subscription.

A fair test runs one real flight through each tool with the same control.
- Pick a known site: use a flight with a checked elevation or a surveyed stockpile volume.
- Keep the same control: load one GCP file everywhere and hold two or three points back as checkpoints.
- Use the RTK tags: with a Mavic 3 Enterprise RTK or a Matrice 350 RTK, compare results with and without GCPs so you know what control you can skip.
- Compare numbers, not looks: read checkpoint RMSE in X, Y and Z and the stockpile volume.
- Price the real team: count everyone who must measure and price three years for that number, including hardware.
