Pix4Dmapper vs Pix4Dmatic pricing, license cost and which one a survey firm should buy

PIX4Dmapper costs $3,990 a year and makes the full survey set on one license: orthomosaic, DSM, DTM, contours and volumes. PIX4Dmatic costs $2,290, $3,990 or $4,990 a year, and only the $4,990 Pro tier makes both the orthomosaic and the DTM with contours. Buy Mapper for typical projects under about 2,000 images, thermal or multispectral work. Buy Matic for corridors, flights above 5,000 images or LiDAR. If three people need to measure the same flight, a cloud plan with seats, such as DroneMapping Team at $1,488 a year, costs less than either.

Pix4Dmapper vs Pix4Dmatic price at a glance

All prices come from Pix4D's own pricing pages on yearly billing, checked in October 2026 in USD. Pix4D says yearly billing saves 17%, so month-to-month prices are about 20% higher than the yearly price divided by twelve. The two products are separate licenses: a PIX4Dmapper subscription does not unlock PIX4Dmatic, and the reverse is also true.

Is Pix4Dmatic replacing Pix4Dmapper?

No. Pix4D sells both and positions them as complements. Its support FAQ points PIX4Dmatic at corridors and datasets above 5,000 images, and its staff call PIX4Dmapper the default choice for projects with fewer images. Mapper also keeps thermal and multispectral processing, which Pix4D's own forum answers say Matic does not cover. For a buyer that means you pick by project size and sensor, not by which product is newer.

Which is cheaper, Pix4Dmapper or Pix4Dmatic?

For a survey deliverable, PIX4Dmapper is cheaper. It makes the orthomosaic, DTM and contours on one $3,990 license, while PIX4Dmatic needs the $4,990 Pro tier for the same set, so Mapper saves $1,000 a year per license. PIX4Dmatic is cheaper only when you need a single half of the job: Analyst at $2,290 for terrain and contours from someone else's point cloud.

What a 3-person survey team pays for Pix4Dmapper, Pix4Dmatic and DroneMapping over 3 years

Take a US survey and civil firm with a pilot, a CAD technician and a project surveyor. They fly 3,000 to 4,000 images a month, deliver an orthomosaic, a bare-earth DTM and contours, and contractors want monthly stockpile volumes.

Cost over 3 years PIX4Dmapper PIX4Dmatic Pro DroneMapping Team
One license, shared one device at a time $11,970 $14,970 $4,464 for 10 seats
One license for each of the 3 people $35,910 $44,910 Included
Sharing maps with clients PIX4Dcloud Starter $3,870 PIX4Dcloud Starter $3,870 Included
Workstations One Windows PC with an NVIDIA card per license Same, a Mac works but without CUDA acceleration Not needed
Total, one shared license plus sharing $15,840 $18,840 $4,464

On those numbers the Pix4D choice comes down to project size. If most flights stay under 2,000 images, Mapper does the whole survey for $3,000 less over three years. If you fly long corridors or LiDAR, the extra $3,000 for Matic Pro buys processing Mapper was not built for.

When Pix4Dmapper is the right purchase

PIX4Dmapper fits a firm with one experienced analyst and ordinary survey jobs:

  • Most flights are a few hundred to 2,000 images: sites, pads, quarries and subdivisions.
  • You need the orthomosaic, DTM, contours and volumes from one license.
  • You process thermal roof or solar inspections, or multispectral flights for growers.
  • The analyst wants to tune calibration and densification settings by hand, which long-time Mapper users say they prefer.

When Pix4Dmatic is the right purchase

PIX4Dmatic fits large and mixed-sensor work:

  • You fly corridors such as roads, rail, pipelines and power lines, or single jobs above 5,000 images, where Pix4D's own test showed Matic processing a 5,294-image set almost 70% faster than Mapper.
  • You process LiDAR, or terrestrial scans from PIX4Dcatch, and want them fused with drone photos.
  • Your office runs on Macs, since Matic runs natively on Apple silicon from version 1.64, with the caveat that GPU acceleration needs NVIDIA CUDA.
  • You want Gaussian splatting, which only the Pro tier includes.

Can I use Pix4Dmatic with a Pix4Dmapper license?

No. PIX4Dmatic needs its own PIX4Dmatic license, and a PIX4Dmapper subscription does not include access to it. Firms that want both pay for both: $3,990 for Mapper plus $2,290 to $4,990 for a Matic tier each year. Ask your Pix4D dealer about bundles, because some resellers package desktop and cloud licenses together.

Does Pix4Dmapper or Pix4Dmatic run on a Mac?

PIX4Dmatic does and PIX4Dmapper does not. Matic runs natively on Apple silicon Macs, but its GPU acceleration uses NVIDIA CUDA, which Macs lack, so big jobs process more slowly than on a Windows workstation. PIX4Dmapper is a Windows application. Our photogrammetry software for Mac page covers processing in the cloud instead of on a laptop.

Is there a free trial of Pix4Dmapper and Pix4Dmatic?

Yes. Pix4D offers a free trial of both desktop products from its pricing pages, and the desktop trial runs for 15 days. Use one real site with ground control in both, hold two or three points back as checkpoints and compare the checkpoint error and the DTM, not the screenshots. A switch also costs staff time, so budget the hours you will spend retraining technicians, whether in a vendor course or your own onboarding and training software.

When a cloud plan with seats costs less than either

Both Pix4D desktop products charge per device, which is the wrong shape for a firm where the pilot uploads, the CAD tech pulls contours and the project manager checks volumes. DroneMapping turns geotagged drone photos into an orthomosaic, DSM and DTM, volumes, contours and a GCP accuracy report in any browser, with 10 seats on Team for $249 a month or $1,488 a year. We do not process LiDAR or thermal imagery, so a firm built on those should stay with Pix4D.
